Coffee was first introduced to China’s Yunnan province around 1887 and in recent years Yunnan beans have increasingly started to reach the market as an exotic and, until recently, a rare and little known origin.

Yunnan coffee has a medium-bodied coffee with light acidity but well rounded aroma and has been reported to score as high as 82 points on the 100-point scale used by cuppers to evaluate coffee. Based on the 100-point scale coffee scoring at least 80 points is considered specialty grade, according to the Specialty Coffee Association of America.

Stay tuned for the upcoming publication of my special report on coffee production and consumption in China in the September edition of the Tea & Coffee Trade Journal.heart
