While many growers in Rwanda are still struggling to get production back on track there are definite signs of the socio-economic conditions improving in Rwanda. As far as the coffee industry is concerned, growing numbers of roasters in the U.S. and Europe have been lured to the remote land of a Thousand Hills to ensure to get their share of the tiny grower’s top quality coffees, with the latest example of this new-found industry interest seen with the creation of “Coffee of Rwanda” by Grace Hightower De Niro. “Inspired by the spirit of the Rwandan people I have created these coffees as a way to celebrate and support the coffee farmers of Rwanda,” she said. Other roasters that have supported Rwanda’s reconstruction through coffee since the end of the genocide is U.S. roasters Community Coffee and Union Coffee Roasters of the U.K.
