Tiny East African grower Rwanda started growing coffee around 1904 when German missionaries first brought Arabica seeds from the coffee producing region around Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Also known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills” Rwanda produced at the height of its coffee industry prior to the genocide a record 705,000 (60-kg) bags in the 1987-88 crop cycle, according to F.O.Licht.
