An agricultural specialist and soil expert Doan Trieu Nhan is the chief architect behind the Coffee Development Plan. But across Asia’s coffee industry he is simply known as Vietnam’s “Mr Coffee” and to this day the 79-year-old remains humble as to the impressive results his plan achieved for Vietnam’s 2 million small-holder growers and the country at large. Years before the war ended Mr Nhan eyed the potential for coffee as a product that could create jobs and incomes which would help the country’s war-ravaged population get back on their feet.
